Yvonne Druppers

Yvonne Druppers

Contemporary Visual Artist

Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1975, Yvonne Druppers creates evocative paintings that bridge the gap between dreams and reality. Her work invites viewers to explore emotional landscapes translated through visual poetry.

Working primarily with oil and acrylic on canvas, Druppers creates layers of translucent color that seem to capture light from within. Her technique combines traditional methods with contemporary sensibilities, resulting in works that feel both timeless and thoroughly modern.

Druppers studied Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague before traveling extensively throughout Asia, an experience that deeply influenced her artistic perspective. Her time in China, particularly her visits to the Terracotta Army in Xi'an, inspired her acclaimed Xian Warriors series that blends historical imagery with dreamlike elements. The artist was deeply moved by learning that the terracotta warriors were discovered by chance in 1974 when farmers were digging a well during a drought, and by the ongoing struggle to preserve these archaeological treasures in the face of environmental challenges and the passage of time.

I don't paint what I see; I paint what I feel when I dream. My work is an invitation to journey through emotions translated into visual poetry. Each brush stroke is a word in the language of the subconscious.

Artistic Philosophy

Understanding the guiding principles and inspirations behind Yvonne Druppers' distinctive artistic approach.

Druppers' work explores the liminal spaces between consciousness and the subconscious. She believes that art serves as a bridge between our waking reality and the rich world of dreams and emotions that lies beneath. Her paintings often feature subjects that appear to exist in multiple states simultaneously – solid yet ethereal, present yet fading.

Color plays a crucial role in her artistic language, with each hue carefully selected to evoke specific emotional responses. Druppers often works intuitively, allowing the painting to evolve organically rather than adhering strictly to preliminary sketches. This process-oriented approach results in works that capture the fluidity of emotional states and the ever-changing nature of our inner landscapes.

"My paintings are not meant to be merely viewed, but experienced," says Druppers. "I create environments rather than images – spaces where viewers can project their own emotional narratives and find personal meaning. Each layer of paint represents a layer of consciousness, inviting deeper exploration with each viewing."
